Greg Pierotti is an associate professor of theatrical devising, dramaturgy, and Fitzmaurice Voice Work. He is cowriter of the plays The Laramie Project, Laramie:10 Years later, The People’s Temple, b more, and Unstories I and II. He also wrote the HBO teleplay The Laramie Project, and coauthored the book Moment Work: Tectonic Theater Project’s Process for Devising Theater. His plays and teleplays have received the Bay Area Theater Critics Award, a Will Glickman Award, and The Humanitas Prize, and have received NY Drama Desk, Alpert and Emmy award nominations. His residencies as a playwright, dramaturge and director include Berkeley Rep’s Ground Floor, Sundance Theater Lab, NYTW summer lab at Dartmouth, and Maison Dora Maar. As an actor he has performed new and classic work at such theaters as Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Brooklyn Academy of Music, La Jolla Playhouse, The Guthrie, Berkeley Rep, Arena Stage, The Union Square Theater, and Classic Stage Company to name a few.

His practice, Affect Theater, is an arts based approach to research. blending theatrical devising, anthropological field and research methods, and affect theory. Affect Theater, challenges researchers performing artists, writers, and designers to find new and playful ways to engage with research. He co-created this method with the anthropologist Dr. Cristiana Giordano, and together they have co-authored the book Affect Ethnography and a number of articles for a variety of theater and anthropology journals including TDR and Cultural Anthropology. They teach workshops in the method around the world and are currently developing a four year project with artists and academics at the Université Paris Cité in Paris, France.
