The New York Times reviews Tyler West (’18): one of “the most exhilarating comic performances all year”

University of Arizona School of Theatre, Film & Television alum Tyler West (BFA Acting, ’18) is starring as Tommy the Cat in the American Panto Dick Rivington & the Cat, on at the Abrons Arts Center in New York’s Lower East Side.

The wacky pantomime, in which West cracks wise, twerks and lands somersaults, celebrates resilience, open-mindedness, and the beauty of the neighborhood in a rags-to-riches story about a young immigrant and his feline fried who overcome various hardships to achieve their dreams.

In a recent review for The New York Times, critic Elisabeth Vincentelli singled out the acting by Tyler West and Bradford Scobie as “some of the most exhilarating comic performances I have seen all year.” Vincentelli added “West is tireless as Tommy — watch him chase a plastic bag — and manages to always be in the moment, reacting to whatever everybody around him is doing without coming across as obnoxious.”

Previously West was a cast member of La Clique, the original, trailblazing, genre-defining cabaret show that debuted at the Edinburgh Festival in 2004 and has subsequently travelled the world to international acclaim. More of Tyler’s credits can be found on his website at https://theoriginaltylerwest.com/.
