The University of Arizona School of Theatre, Film & Television is delighted to welcome Mia Farrell as the new director of the Hanson FilmTV Institute.
Mia joins UArizona from the British Film Institute in London, where part of her role involved leading the Critics Mentorship Programme. The program acknowledges the lack of diversity in film criticism and is designed to redress that imbalance. Each year, the program takes in a diverse range of writers and bloggers and helps them take their first steps in the industry.
Last week the Critics Mentorship Programme received a 2022 Big Screen Award, a testament to the impact of the program and to Mia’s work. It was nominated alongside other change-making programs in the category of Diversity & Inclusion Initiatives.
To discuss this and other accomplishments over her 25-year career as a global film consultant and publicist, and to share her inclusive vision for Hanson, Mia recently sat down with Shawn Burrage for The Daily Wildcat.
“I want Hanson [to be] a resource to all students if there are things that resonate to them in their respective disciplines,” Farrell said. “I am looking at how to collaborate with other professors and directors of schools at UA to see how all of these experiences might be beneficial to their students.”Read more at The Daily Wildcat
