Samantha Adams and Kinzie Pipkin, two School of Theatre, Film & Television sophomores in the BFA Musical Theatre program, are part of the Arizona Theatre Company (ATC) production of Scrooge!. The holiday musical extravaganza celebrates the season with the beloved story of Ebenezer Scrooge presented by a cast of more than 24 actors, live musicians, and an all-star creative team. The show features songs by the Oscar- and Grammy-winning and Tony-nominated composer Leslie Bricusse (Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory), and is becoming a holiday tradition at ATC.
Samantha joins the production in the roles of Isabel and Beggar Woman, as well as understudy for the Ghost of Christmas Yet-to-Come #2. Her most recent credits at TFTV include Ensemble in Jesus Christ Superstar and Ensemble/Johanna U/S in Sweeney Todd.
“Being a part of Scrooge! with Arizona Theatre Company has been such an amazing experience,” Samantha shares. “I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this beautiful production. The entire cast and team has been a dream to work with. The tools I have been given while training to get my BFA in Musical Theatre, have helped me in this process. I’m glad to be able to be in a professional production while still in school, so that I know what is to come after I graduate. Being surrounded by professionals has raised the bar for me and I feel excited about what is to come in my career after graduation as a professional actor myself. “
Kinzie joins Scrooge! as the Baker and understudies for the role of Beggar Woman, Mary, and Helen #2. Her recent TFTV credits include Ensemble in The Thanksgiving Play and Ensemble/ U/S Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd.
“I am very honored to be part of this project,” says Kinzie. “I had a great time working with the wonderful cast, crew, and artistic team. They were fantastic in supporting me throughout the hectic rehearsal process. We only had about two weeks of rehearsals before we were in the theatre and in costume! I’m glad my BFA Musical Theatre classes helped prepare me for what a rehearsal process is like in a professional environment. I also love being in a show with so many large production numbers. They are so fun to be apart of and it’s not often I get to be in a show of this scale.”
Kinzie also shared her favorite parts of interning on the production. “My favorite part of the process so far has to be the understudy rehearsals. I am covering a few tracks in the show including mine so having structured understudy rehearsals have been great. Plus the cast is always so supportive and everyone is just there to make sure everyone feels comfortable in the blocking and choreography. I am very grateful to the School of Theatre, Film & Television for providing me with the opportunity to work with Arizona Theatre Company.”
Scrooge! will have performances in Tucson through November 30. More information can be found on Arizona Theatre Company’s website.
