This past weekend at the Creative Arts Emmys, University of Arizona School of Theatre, Film & Television alum John Matter (’01) won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama for his work as Dialogue Editor on HBO’s Lovecraft Country.
John shared his reaction with us. “Winning the Emmy this year for Lovecraft Country was extra special, primarily because we didn’t expect it!” he said. “Our category was really strong and we had no idea how it would turn out. Most of the work on this show happened right at the beginning of the pandemic when the whole world seemed upside down. I was used to working at home, but now my family was there, too. While helping my kids with Zoom school, I would do little bits of work here and there until everyone got used to the routine. To be recognized by our peers for our hard work in such challenging circumstances is just a really great honor and feels really special.”
This is John’s third nomination and second win following his 2019 Emmy win for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series for his work as Dialogue Editor on Game of Thrones.
Congratulations John!
