In recognition of our efforts to increase sustainability, the University of Arizona School of Theatre, Film & Television (TFTV) has been accepted to the Green Film School Alliance (GFSA), a collaboration of leading film schools united to integrate industry-level sustainable production practices into their programs. TFTV joins the film schools at UCLA, NYU, USC and other sustainability minded schools leading the effort to lessen the environmental impacts of film production practices.
Students have been helping drive these goals. TFTV seniors Jason Lee and Kaleigh Brown were recently recognized with a 2022 Environmental Media Association’s (EMA) Green Seal for their efforts to reduce waste and lower their carbon footprint on the set of their student film Ferb and Lou Play a Game. By taking steps such as switching to LED lights and banning all plastic water bottles on set, Kaleigh and Jason are helping lead the way for more sustainable filming practices within TFTV and the industry.
The Green Film School Alliance (GFSA) is committed to bringing common language, standards, and tools to their institutions. Supported by the Sustainable Production Alliance and the Producers Guild of America Green, the alliance is built around specific actions aimed to reduce the impacts of production on the environment, share best practices, and a pledge to further sustainable initiatives at their respective schools.
