On Feb. 19, 2023 the University of Arizona Symphonic Choir presented War and Peace, which featured collaborative efforts from members of the School of Theatre, Film & Television and the Fred Fox School of Music’s Treble Glee ensemble.
The War and Peace concert explored the themes of war and peace and included popular music of the Civil Rights era, Civil War songs and works by Undine Smith Moore, Katerina Gimon, Carol Barnett, John W. Work Jr. and UA doctoral student CJ Madsen, as well as excerpts from Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms.” The program was also accompanied by the telling of two personal stories from war refugees from Syria and Afghanistan.
The performance was accompanied by movement with original choreography by TFTV Professor Brent Gibbs, and TFTV students Babacar Ba, Sydney Di Sabato, and Hannah Hufford, and was performed by Danny Bass, James Carroll, Brach Drew, Lillie Langston, Gemma Pedersen, and Sophia Scarsi.
Brent’s next public project will be the Arizona Repertory Theatre production of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. It marks the 50th production directed for the School by Brent Gibbs. Read more about Brent’s vision and the American twist the play will take here.
