This week KGUN9 News shone a spotlight on student activity at the School of Theatre, Film & Television following the School’s recent ascent in The Wrap’s annual Top 50 Film School rankings. TFTV landed at No. 7 out of public universities, and No. 25 overall.
KGUN9 reporter Tina Giuliano visited the set of the senior thesis film I’m Just Trying to Help and interviewed Linda Paola Varela, the film’s director, writer, and cinematographer. She also interviewed BFA Acting and Musical Theatre student Michael Laverde, who is co-starring in the film, on the stage and screen opportunities the A/MT program provides.
“The films that we make, especially now, are going to be records of what the world was like,” Varela said. “Across the board, the faculty really care about helping students find their voices. It’s important to me because I feel like I was always meant to be a storyteller.“
Guiliano also spoke with film production faculty member Lisanne Skyler on campus about the accolades the program has been receiving. “We are so proud,” Skyler said. “We’re a very close-knit community of faculty, scholars and filmmakers all working together to tell unique personal and socially impactful stories.”
