TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona School of Theatre, Film & Television (TFTV) proudly presents the next production in its 2025/26 Performance Season, Love and Information. This sharp, fast-paced play by Caryl Churchill explores human connection amid the overwhelming flood of information in today’s world. Performances run November 20 – December 7 at the Tornabene Theatre, with previews on November 16 and 19.
Directed by Associate Professor Greg Pierotti, Love and Information blends live performance and filmed elements in an innovative staging that showcases the creative synergy between TFTV’s Theatre and Film programs – a defining feature of the school’s degree in Live and Screened Performance.
“We chose Love and Information because it embodies the creative and conceptual core of our new degree,” says Pierotti. “It’s a piece that demands collaboration across disciplines and invites our students to think expansively about performance – on stage and on screen.”
This production marks TFTV’s first theatrical presentation since the loss of three beloved University of Arizona students – TFTV senior Josiah Santos, who was majoring in Theatre, and Sophia Troetel and Katya Castillo Mendoza – and is dedicated to their memory.
In memory of Josiah Santos – and at the kind suggestion of his mother Hope – the School of Theatre, Film & Television is collecting non-perishable food items for the Campus Pantry. Collection bins will be located in the lobby of the Tornabene Theatre at all performances of Love and Information. Campus Pantry fights food insecurity on campus by offering free access to staple foods for all students, faculty, and staff at the University of Arizona.
About the Play
Caryl Churchill’s Love and Information is a dazzling collage of more than 50 short scenes and over 100 characters, exploring how people seek meaning, empathy, and intimacy amid the noise of modern life. By dispensing with traditional character names and narrative structure, Churchill challenges both performers and audiences to engage actively, “to lean forward,” as Pierotti puts it, inviting them to discover moments of humor, tenderness, and recognition in the fragments.
“The script contains no character names or descriptions, allowing for an inclusive casting process,” says Pierotti. “It embraces actors of any background or identity, and its ensemble structure encourages collaborative creativity – hallmarks of our program.”
About the Production
The Tornabene Theatre staging features original film sequences conceived and produced by TFTV’s Film & Television students in collaboration with the theatre ensemble. This fusion of media provides students with essential experience in interdisciplinary storytelling – an education model designed to prepare emerging artists for the evolving landscape of live and digital performance.
Audiences can expect an energetic, thought-provoking evening that reflects the vitality and vision of the next generation of theatre-makers.
