Faculty, students speak to KGUN9 News about TFTV’s record high film school ranking

December 3, 2024

KGUN9 News recently reported on the School of Theatre, Film & Television’s record high standing in The Wrap‘s Top Film School rankings. TFTV is now the No. 2 public film school in the country and No. 9 overall, following a data-driven evaluation of more than 60 schools. Reporter Jackie Aguilar interviewed BFA Film & Television seniors Allie Cincera and Cosmo Brusa Zappellini and TFTV Professor Lisanne Skyler about the recognition.

“The ranking not only puts School of Theatre, Film & Television on the map, it also puts U of A and Tucson on the map, and we couldn’t be more proud,” said Skyler. “It was really exciting to see when the rankings came out that if you were an aspiring filmmaker, your top choices would be Los Angeles, New York, Boston, the places that you expect, and Tucson.”

Allie and Cosmo, whose short film The Veil recently won Best Student Film at the 2024 Chroma Art Film Festival, and who will join TFTV’s annual Sundance trip in January 2025, shared that the many opportunities for collaboration were a driving factor in their commitment to TFTV’s film program.

On building their portfolio with films made during coursework, Cincera said “This also gives us an opportunity for festival submissions and being able to connect with different filmmakers and industry professionals [at festivals], which I think is super important when you’re a young filmmaker.”

“The opportunity to really be collaborative with classmates and to work on that level and being able to trust other classmates is very inspiring,” said Brusa Zappellini. “It led me to pursue the BFA program here at U of A.”
