Last week the University of Arizona School of Theatre, Film & Television (TFTV) opened the 2022/23 theatre season with Legally Blonde the Musical, the light-hearted and award-winning musical based on the much-adored movie of the same name.
Legally Blonde the Musical follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. Hilarious and heart-warming, the production explodes with memorable songs and dynamic dances.
Journalist Charlie Borla spoke with cast members and Director/Choreographer Christie Kerr for feature stories published in the Arizona Daily Star and The Daily Wildcat.
Kerr spoke about the challenges of the past two years, and being excited to share Legally Blonde with audiences.
“We could all use a little joy in our lives, and Elle Woods brings us so much joy. Everybody has worked so hard, and to see that finished product put together, I’m very proud of it and I can’t wait to share it with others.”
Cast members Lillie Langston (Elle Woods) and Clayton Lukens (Emmett) also shared their thoughts on being back in production and the show.
“Honestly, I love to tell stories and make people happy,” Langston said. “Even as a performer, there’s not a time where I see a professional show or a Broadway production where I don’t come out of the theater feeling better, different, moved. … I want to do that for someone.”
“This is the first principal role I’ve had in about three years,” Lukens said. “I feel like I’ve grown up and changed a lot since coming to college … It’s kind of freaky to be back at it. I’m scared in the best way.”
Legally Blonde runs Oct. 2-16, 2022 at the Marroney Theatre at the University of Arizona. For performance times, tickets and more, visit theatre.arizona.edu.
