Actress, writer, director and producer Yolonda Ross, known for her series regular role as Jada in Lena Waithe’s THE CHI will be in conversation with Hanson FilmTV Institute Director Mia Farrell and Stephanie Troutman Robbins, Department Head, Gender and Women’s Studies, about her creative process and artistry working in film, television and theatre.
Yolonda is a twice nominated Independent Spirit Award nominee, and a Gotham Award winner. Known for her authentic and layered characters, her film credits include Denzel Washington’s ANTWONE FISHER, Angela Bassett’s WHITNEY, John Sayles GO FOR SISTERS, Carol Morley’s OUT OF BLUE and Baz Luhrmann’s THE GET DOWN, amongst others; for television, recurring roles include programs such as HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, TERROR LAKE DRIVE, AMERICAN GIGOLO, opposite Jon Bernthal, and TREME’, which led to her getting behind the camera to direct her short music film, BREAKING NIGHT.
A member of New York’s Labyrinth Theater Company, last year she made her Steppenwolf Theatre debut in HOW BLOOD GO. She can currently be seen as Jada Washington in the 6th season of Lena Waithe’s Showtime series THE CHI and next on the big screen in the feature film THUG, starring opposite Liam Neeson.
