Alum Vinney Pugliese (BFA MT, ‘22) co-stars in ALIEN RUBICON, the ‘mockbuster’ released last week on the heels of the blockbuster franchise film, ALIEN: ROMULUS. Produced by The Asylum (known for SHARKNADO, Z NATION, and more), the film tracks an alien spacecraft that lands near New York and destroys everything as it heads toward Washington D.C. Scientists and the military must stop it before it’s too late! ALIEN RUBICON is available to stream now on Apple TV+, Hoopla, YouTube, and additional platforms.

“I was so excited to finally be in a feature film that you could watch on Apple TV, Prime, etc,” said Vinney. “I started to freak out about how many lines I would have to memorize though. The script was going through a lot of changes every week, and I never knew what was going to get cut or added. Then I realized I’d been memorizing on the fly for years. Hundreds of auditions in the two years I’d been in LA, the shows, songs and scenes I was doing every week at the U of A, and even in high school I don’t think I went too long without ever being in a show. I think more than anything I’ve learned to adapt. Now I’m looking forward to whatever my next opportunity might be, and I’m hoping I can continue to work with so many amazing people and make a great career out of this.”

Associate Professor Christie Kerr, the new Artistic Director of the Arizona Repertory Theatre and head of Acting/Musical Theatre, gives us a preview of TFTV's exciting 2024/25 season.

We’re excited to announce our 2024/25 theatre season, featuring a selection of award-winning musicals and plays and musicals spanning the late 19th century through to the modern day. The season showcases the school’s rising stars in acting, design and technical production. Join us!

“We look forward to welcoming audiences to the beautifully renovated Marroney Theatre to experience the master works Uncle Vanya and Little Women, the thrilling new play John Proctor is the Villain, and a sweeping tale of love and redemption in Bright Star, the musical written and composed by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell,” said Assoc. Prof. Christie Kerr, the School’s new Head of Acting/Musical Theatre and new Arizona Repertory Theatre Artistic Director.

Subscription packages are now on sale in-person at the Arizona Arts Box Office, and by mail, phone, or online (link in bio). The physical mailers will hit mailboxes next week. More information on each of the productions can be found at theatre.arizona.edu

We’re proud to share that a record 7 students from the School of Theatre, Film & Television have been nominated for the 2024 Rocky Mountain Southwest chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Student Production Awards!

Best known for the Emmy® Awards, NATAS presents the Student Production Awards annually to recognize outstanding achievement in production and to shine a light on outstanding cultural, educational, technological, entertainment, news and informational achievements by undergraduate college students.

Congratulations to filmmakers Allie Cincera (BFA Film & Television, 2025) and Cosmo Brusa Zappellini (BFA Film & Television, 2025) whose film THE VEIL is an official selection at Chroma Art Film Festival! THE VEIL, which premiered at Magic Hour 2024, is an experimental film in which a young woman, played by Acting/Musical Theatre rising senior Haiden Pederson, seeks guidance from a witch in a journey of spiritual reconstruction.

“We are so honored for THE VEIL to have been selected to be part of the Chroma Art Film Festival 2024,” say the filmmakers. “Making this film was an incredibly healing process for the both of us, and knowing that our work is recognized in a space like Chroma Art is incredibly rewarding. It was really exciting for the two of us to make a film of this scale. Our gratitude goes out to our wonderful cast and crew as this film was a testament to their talent and skill. Finally, we would like to thank Michael Mulcahy for his guidance, as well as Kerryn Negus for mentoring us throughout the festival process.”

Chroma Art Film Festival is set to take place August 17th and 18th at Superblue Miami. The festival is a dynamic celebration blending art, technology, and cinema. It’s the perfect stage for groundbreaking filmmakers and visionary artists to showcase their talents.

Rehearsals recently began for Ogunquit Playhouse's production of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, and our very own recent grad Lillie Langston (BFA MT, ‘23) has joined the ensemble! Langston joins heavy hitter cast members Kathleen Turner, Nik Walker, Julia Murney, and more in Sondheim and Wheeler’s dramatic musical celebration of love. The show will run from July 18 - August 17.

“I couldn’t be more thankful for the training, connections, and wonderful experiences I had as a BFA Musical Theatre student at the UofA,” says Langston. “Each opportunity that I’ve had post grad has presented itself through a connection or relationship made within the Acting/Musical Theatre division. It is truly an honor to be representing the Wildcat AMTs all the way in NYC (and Maine!), and I cannot wait for the rest of the students to come and take the city by storm! Bear down!”
