FTV LA – Alumni Spotlight: The Writers Room

August 30, 2025 at 11:00am

Venue: Film Independent (5670 Wilshire Blvd, 9th floor, Los Angeles)

The School of Theatre, Film & Television is thrilled to announce FTV LA, our new base in Los Angeles made possible by our partnership with Film Independent.

FTV LA will host alumni talks and film screenings, creating opportunities to connect with fellow alumni, at Film Independent headquarters (5670 Wilshire Blvd, 9th floor).

Join us on August 30 for Alumni Spotlight: The Writers Room with Eli Benavidez (’07) (Resident Alien) and Laura Snow (’13) (ABC’s Will Trent). An RSVP is required to attend.

Elias Benavidez started his career in television as Ann Biderman’s assistant on the first season of Showtime’s Ray Donovan; a script coordinator on Amazon’sCasanova, ABC’s The Whispers, CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend; then as a writers’ assistant on El Rey’s From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series.  Elias has been staffed on Freeform’s genre-bending YA series Beyond and Siren, and he recently wrapped the fourth season of Amblin’s Resident Alien starring Alan Tudyk, where he’s been staffed since its initial run. Born and raised in Mesa, Arizona with 15+ years of production experience under his belt, producing more than thirty episodes of television, Elias specializes in complex familial storytelling, explored through a Latinx and LGBTQ+ lens.

Laura Snow began her career in production and development at Mandeville Films before moving into the writers’ room as a Writers’ Assistant on dramas for ABC, Hulu, and Disney+. She recently served as Executive Story Editor on Will Trent for ABC and Twentieth Television. Prior to that, she was Executive Story Editor on The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, AMC’s French-set spinoff, and a Staff Writer on NBC’s multi-timeline drama Ordinary Joe. She currently has a legal procedural set up at CBS Studios and a pilot in development with Cathy Schulman’s Welle Entertainment. Laura was featured as one of eight up-and-coming writers in the Television Academy’s 2019 Young Writers to Watch Showcase and recently co-wrote and produced her first play, Frigid B*tches to a sold out run. She is originally from Phoenix, Arizona.

FTV LA is a TFTV partnership with Film Independent made possible by the Hanson FilmTV endowment.
