FTV LA – Alumni Spotlight: Creating Unscripted Television

November 15, 2025 at 11:00am

Venue: Film Independent (5670 Wilshire Blvd, 9th floor, Los Angeles)

The School of Theatre, Film & Television is thrilled to announce FTV LA, our new base in Los Angeles made possible by our partnership with Film Independent.

FTV LA will host alumni talks and film screenings, creating opportunities to connect with fellow alumni, at Film Independent headquarters (5670 Wilshire Blvd, 9th floor).

Join us on November 15 for Alumni Spotlight: Creating Unscripted Television with Jonathan Goldman (’93) (The Truth About Jim) and Kameron Kindschi (’20) (MasterChef USA). An RSVP is required to attend.

Jonathan Goldman is a 25-year film and television writer-producer. Starting out as a second unit director with filmmaker, Phillip Noyce, he went on to become a screenwriter, and eventually pivoted to producing unscripted adventure shows at Thom Beers’ Original Productions where he helped create and produce more than 200 hours of high-adrenaline factual series and true-crime docs for Discovery, NatGeo, History, Vice, HBOMax, A&E, and more. Today, Goldman co-heads Freak Magnet Productions, a boutique label for premium docu-dramas. Its debut series, The Truth About Jim was produced in partnership with Imagine Entertainment and directed by Skye Borgman. In the pipeline: Stone Cold (the origin of the Yeti cooler franchise and the murder nobody talks about) with the UK’s Curious Films for AMC Networks; and an investigation into the downing of TWA Flight 800 with CineMart. A member of the DGA and WGA, Jonathan lives in Los Angeles with his blended family of four kids – and plays synth in the greatest ’80s band you’ve never heard.

Kam Kindschi is an experienced unscripted television producer. He got his start working as a production assistant on various unscripted shows, where he fell in love with producing during his time at the School of Theatre, Film & Television. Since his graduation, Kindschi has worked with prominent networks such as FOX, Netflix, and Roku. Some of his most recent producing credits are Peacock’s Love Island: Beyond the Villa, HGTV’s The Flip Off, and Amazon Prime Video’s The Pasta Queen.

FTV LA is a TFTV partnership with Film Independent made possible by the Hanson FilmTV endowment.
