Welcome

When you look at our School's website you hopefully will notice something you will not see virtually anywhere else in North America. Your ability to work in all three areas reflects the professional world and the exciting new careers that await you when you graduate. They aren’t separate in the world of work, and they aren’t separate in your experience in the School of Theatre, Film & Television.

Our extraordinary faculty offers comprehensive training in the art and business of storytelling. Whether that story is told on stage, on screens, or in the emerging world of media and entertainment, you will be given the education, training, and hands-on experience to become artistic makers and leaders for the future.

Part of our commitment to prepare you for your future career is our extensive internship program. These opportunities allow you to engage the professional area of your choice and learn from experienced practitioners by working alongside them.

Welcome to one of America’s most exciting arts environments. Come join us and take your place with talented colleagues who share your passion for the study, the business, and the art of storytelling. Explore the rich emotional possibilities offered only through live performance and the immersive cinematic and media experience we offer you in the School of Theatre, Film, & Television.

We’re excited to share that Tatum Sailors (BFA Film & Television ’24) has signed with the film and television production and management company Zero Gravity Management with manager Matt DiPaolo. This marks the first time a UA School of Theatre, Film & Television film student has signed for representation before graduating!

It was the success of Sailors’ documentary At 7, made in Prof. Jacob Bricca’s Documentary Production class, that initially caught DiPaolo’s eye. The short film gained attention on the festival circuit, with screenings at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival and San Diego Comic-Con among numerous others across the country.

“Before even signing, Matt has been a fantastic mentor,” says Sailors. “He has given me great advice and introduced me to many industry professionals over the past few months. Matt’s kindness and genuine interest in my passions made signing an obvious choice. I absolutely cannot wait to further my career as a cinematographer, and I cannot thank Matt enough for deciding to represent me.”

Tatum Sailors’ senior thesis film ‘Dear Addie’ will premiere alongside those of her filmmaker classmates at I Dream in Widescreen, TFTV’s signature annual showcase, at the Fox Tucson Theatre on Saturday May 4 - more information and tickets at idiw.tftv.arizona.edu.

Congratulations, Tatum!

Some Cupid kills with arrows, some with traps...

Next week two couples find themselves fighting for love while battling various matchmaking and manipulation machinations in Shakespeare’s beloved romantic comedy MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING.

TFTV’s version of the production is set in Italy in the early 1950s, with choreography by students Holden Jones (BFA Musical Theatre, ’25) and Catherine Kim (BFA Musical Theatre, ’25).

“It’s been a super exciting process getting to be on the other side of the table and seeing our vision come to life,” reflects Jones. “We tried to allow the story to influence each character’s movement to continue moving the story forward with dance. We’re incorporating elements of swing, jitterbug, rock and roll, and even some traditional ballroom and classical influences.”

‘Much Ado About Nothing’ will have performances from April 18 – 28, with preview performances on April 14 and 17 in the Marroney Theatre. Visit theatre.arizona.edu for tickets.

FREE TICKETS to the production are available for all college and high school students. For details, visit azart.fyi/freetftvtix. The free student ticket program is provided by the College of Fine Arts via support from the Office of the Provost.

CONGRATS to recent TFTV grads Anna Agosto and Myles Gordon, whose 2023 senior thesis films are official selections of the Los Angeles International Children's Film Festival at WonderCon!

Anna’s film LIGHT UP LULU and Myles’ film THE REMATCH, both of which premiered at last year’s I DREAM IN WIDESCREEN, screened at the Anaheim Convention Center this past weekend. The filmmakers were in attendance and joined by fellow classmate and editor of THE REMATCH Ryan Ramsey.

“I am so honored to have been a part of LAICFF!” said Anna. “It was fun and inspiring to go to WonderCon and meet other filmmakers who are also very passionate about their work. I was so excited to see my film screen alongside so many talented filmmakers, including Ryan Ramsey and Myles Gordon! I’m grateful to Kerryn Negus for this opportunity and for the support of Professors Bricca, Mulcahy, and Makino who helped and guided me through the process of making Light Up Lulu.”

Myles added: “Attending LAICFF at WonderCon was a transformative journey. Amongst an electrifying atmosphere, screening my film alongside talented peers fueled my passion for storytelling. The experience reinforced my belief in the power of cinema to inspire and connect with audiences of all ages.”

The filmmakers will have a second screening of their films on May 26 in Hollywood as part of the same festival. Bear down! 🙌 🙌 🙌

Fantastic Congratulations

Congrats to both filmmakers! I’ve added both films to our short form content list. It’ll be a part of our Theatrical Aggregation platform launching in May (before Cannes), compiled of databases that defines the independent cinema market and can be utilised by cinemas, distributors, festivals, and other filmmakers. This allows communities to discover the films and connect with the filmmakers. Our goal is provide growth and sustainability for the indie marketplace.
