University of Arizona School of Theatre, Film & Television alum Clayton Lukens (BFA Musical Theatre ’24) is returning to Centennial Hall as a member of the national tour of The Book of Mormon, presented by Broadway in Tucson Feb. 27–March 1 as part of its 20th anniversary season.
“I’m just really excited for my professors to see all the work I’ve gotten to do and had to do in the past year,” Lukens said of performing on the same stage where he graduated.
Lukens joined the tour last March in his first professional role after graduating. He performs in the ensemble and understudies the lead role of Elder Price – a role he has stepped into multiple times during the tour.
As a TFTV student, Lukens appeared in numerous productions, including lead roles in Jesus Christ Superstar and Sweeney Todd, and spent summers performing with the Okoboji Summer Theatre program. He describes the tour’s rehearsal process as an intensive experience that expanded his training and strengthened his skills as a performer.
Returning to Tucson marks a full-circle moment as Lukens shares his professional debut with the faculty and mentors who helped shape his path.
The Book of Mormon, written by Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Robert Lopez, is one of the most successful musical comedies of all time, earning nine Tony Awards and becoming a global Broadway phenomenon.
