What’s Up, Docs?

December 16, 2025 at 7:00pm

Venue: Marroney Theatre

The School of Theatre, Film & Television presents the 2025 edition of What’s Up, Docs?, our annual showcase of outstanding new short documentaries created by BA and BFA students.

This year, watch 12 outstanding new short films exploring topics that are current, newsworthy, poignant, and sublime. Here’s a sample:

  • The Ironing Man shares the story of Tony Starch, AKA Kieran McGann, AKA ’The Ironing Man’, who has spent the last decade searching for the most extreme spot to iron his clothes–pushing his comfort zone to find poignant art in a mundane household task.
  • Algorithm follows along as three chronically online young adults experience both the utter absurdity and the destructiveness of social media.
  • Unregulated: Body Art in Arizona shines a light on the hidden dangers consumers face when getting tattoos and piercings as body-art professionals expose the truth about the practices in a state with almost no oversight.
  • Inspired by the success of her grocery store and fueled by a lifelong love for cooking, a Filipino immigrant chases her dream of opening a restaurant in Tucson in Kain Tayo (Let’s Eat).
  • Homes & Hope offers a fascinating look inside the Tucson Homing Project, which launches with ten tiny homes and a bold mission to rebuild lives and confront the city’s homelessness crisis.

The screening is FREE to attend and will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.
