TFTV alumni come together to create Tucson film, ‘Over Again’

Jeff Brack, a BFA graduate of TFTV’s Film & Television program, recently completed a new short film entitled Over Again. Filmed in downtown Tucson at the Century Room at Hotel Congress and in the Barrio Viejo, Over Again is the result of a collaboration with multiple generations of alumni. The film was co-produced and edited by Burbank, California filmmaker and fellow classmate, Sean Olson.

TFTV alumni Dan Crowley (’20) and Enrique Brown (’24) help film a scene in the Barrio Viejo.

Brack and Olson were both members of the class of 1998, among the first graduating classes of the modern BFA film program and among the last to shoot celluloid film for their capstone projects, ahead of the transition to the digital era.

Other alumni collaborators were BFA alum Dan Crowley (‘20) serving as Gaffer, Fine Arts grad Cameron Hood of Ryanhood folk rock fame writing the title song, UA School of Music grad Sophia Rankin performing an original song in the film, Journalism & Photography grad Randy Metcalf shooting all set and promotional photos, recently graduated Film & Television students Alek Mendez (‘25) and Enrique Brown (‘24) sharing the role of 1st Assistant Camera, and 2025 graduate from the Theatre program, Haiden Pederson, joining as a supporting cast member.

School of Music alum and local multi-instrumentalist Sophia Rankin joined cast member Michael Ursu in Over Again.

Jeff returned to filmmaking a few years ago at the urging of a friend and fellow filmmaker. It was not only an opportunity to get behind the camera after an absence, but Over Again now serves as proof of concept for two potential future feature film projects, each at a different budget level.

In addition to Tucson locations, the short features an all-Tucson music soundtrack. Local artists Cameron Hood, Sophia Rankin, Leila Lopez, and Paul Opocensky provided the folk-indie-alt rock songs, and the score was written and performed by local composer Ryan Alfred.

Currently in consideration by festivals across the country, Over Again has received its first official selection: the film will screen next month at the Long Beach International Film Festival in New York.
